Traditional methods of making dental crowns, commonly known as “caps” involved preparing the tooth, taking impressions with a “gooey” material, placing a temporary crown with provisional cement. Then the impression was sent to the lab and after two weeks, the patient would return, would get injected again, the temporary crown would be removed and the permanent crown would be cemented. In our Miami dental office, with CEREC, after preparing the tooth for a crown we scan the tooth with a special and painless pen-like camera. We design your crown on a computer monitor and a specialized instrument creates the crown from a block of porcelain. No need to reinject. No need to send you on your way with a temporary crown for two weeks that may fall off or create sensitivity.
